Looking to the future in Wooloowin
With work on the Wooloowin access shaft well underway and the site scheduled to be reinstated by March 2012, now is the time to start thinking about the future use of the site.
Thiess John Holland has committed $3 million to fund an Urban Mitigation and Community Development Project for Wooloowin on completion of the Airport Link project.
This survey is designed to gain your views on how you would like to see the 2,800m2 site used. On 22 June 2009 the Minister for Infrastructure and Planning and the Minister for Main Roads announced that at the end of construction the land would be handed to the community as a green space for use as a park or other recreational facility.
Currently the land is owned by the Department of Transport and Main Roads for a planned arterial road, however the Airport Link project removes the need for another surface road through the area.
Options to be considered by the community can include a community park or recreational facility. This process is not limited to the site; we would also like you to consider options such as the extension of bikeways, amenity improvements to the local area, additional footpaths in Wooloowin or urban design enhancements at or near the Eagle Junction station shopping facilities.
Feedback from the Wooloowin Community Liaison Group, set up as part of the conditions for the Wooloowin worksite, suggests that residents would like green space and amenity improvements that provide connectivity between Melrose Park and Kedron Brook. This may include cycle ways, way finding facilities and historical reference points.
This is your neighbourhood. We want to work with you and others in your local community to find out what green space you think is needed.
Your feedback is a vital part of the Urban Mitigation and Community Development Plan which CNI must submit to the Coordinator-General in October 2010. To help us understand your views and ideas we’ve created a resident survey. Please take a few moments to fill out the survey.
How can I have my say?
Ways you can get involved:
- Take part in this survey – fill out the brief survey.
- Come along to our community open day. Information about the open day will be advertised and put in your letterbox in coming months.
- Let CNI, a Community Liaison Group member or Local Elected Representative know what you would or wouldn’t like to see included.
